So it’s been a while since I wrote one of these. 200 days, to be exact. (Technically 199 since I’m writing this on Wednesday)
OMNIFATE has been playtested, playtested, playtested and everything has been sent off to stores for the September 9 release. The individual stores should be showing off their pages in about a month and a half. I’d just like to briefly talk about the development process here. Additionally, if you like this style of writing, go over to my RF Generation page, because over there I write an article in this style every month.
I had thought that my game was all finished a long time ago (and for the most part that was true), but there was several bugs still left in there. This was the exact scenario I was fearing when I first started this project, but at the time I had brushed it off as by then I’ll be smart enough to make sure that doesn’t happen.
Luckily however, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was. I actually had an emotional breakdown over it because I thought that there was just so many bugs I wouldn’t be able to hit the release date on time, but I wrote down the bugs I had observed and got them all patched within five hours.
I feel like that speaks to most of the people that want to make games. They’re afraid of even starting because “it’s just gonna be so broken” and “everyone will hate it”. Well buckaroo, sit down and make the game that you’ve been wanting to make for all your life. Nobody will hate you for it. Definitely still patch bugs, but that doesn’t have to be your number one priority through development. I had a bug that was in my game for over eight months before I eventually patched it, and as it turns out I had the correct solution, just in the wrong line of code.
Making my game wasn’t too hard. It was really a test of perseverance. How long can you fail before it gets too hard? That needs to increase, and the only way to increase it is through trial and error. So get out there, get off of your butt, and make your dream come true. I was able to do it, and you can too. :)
Psst, sneaky peaky
Have a great day, and see you on September 9 when OMNIFATE releases. :)
